Solar Lighting

This past week Rwanda Children Educational Foundation presented an update to the Laconia Rotary Club on the success of the Rotary Micro Finance Grant that began back in April 2019.

To date we have given out 138 loans. These loans have positively affected over 1200 people (we are counting family members and people who have been hired to work for the new businesses started with the loans).

Thank you to all the Rotary Clubs throughout central New Hampshire for making the Micro-Finance Credit Loan Grant possible.

At the conclusion of this latest meeting, five Lakes Region Rotary Clubs plus the Interact Club of Inter-Lakes High School presented RCEF with a special donation to bring Solar Lighting to the twelve new safe and secure housing units recently constructed in Rwanda.

The country of Rwanda is situated near the equator and experiences equal hours of daylight and darkness.

At present, the new houses do not have electricity, so it is difficult for our children to do their homework (see photo of boys using flashlights to study and the children gathered around our solar streetlights.)

Now, with this Grant, each house will have some lights and the ability to recharge cell phones.

This will make a real difference for many families.
