During the second week of January, Executive Director, Jeanine Mukarubega and staff members from our Rwanda Office, visited thirty families and twenty schools that our students attend. This is an important function in order to establish strong lines of communication and build positive relationships with school leadership and the parents of our boys and girls.
These visits underscore for all of us the tremendous impact that sponsorship has on so many deserving people.
In the top picture the mother is a widow who has survivied breast cancer. She lives in a one-bedroom rental property with her three sons, that costs $30 per month. She has no permanent job and struggles to provide daily necessities for her children. A sponsor makes it possible for her oldest son to attend 7th grade.
Sandrine is sponsored to attend a 5th Grade class. Her mother works as a cleaner earning $26 per month. Her father is a day laborer with no fixed income. Rent for them is $34 per month. Without sponsorship Sandrine’s family could not afford to pay her school expenses. Pictured below is Sandrine at school and the RCEF staff talking to Sandrine’s mother in their home.
